If you live in Schuylkill County and like all natural eggs produced from free range chickens as opposed to a chicken that has led a miserable life confined to a tiny cage, head to Bill's produce in Schuylkill Haven for some of our fresh Country Eggs.  Quantities are limited as this is a hobby not an occupation.  I am in the Web Design and Hosting Business

My son, a soldier with the 4th ID,

pictured here with his brother at Fort Hood prior to departing for Baghdad, wanted to raise chickens so we could have fresh eggs.   Over two dozen Rhode Island Reds later, we have more eggs than we could possibly eat.  Bill from Bill's Produce has kindly offered to sell our extra eggs to offset our feed costs.   Ask for them by name the next time you visit Bill's!

In addition to table scraps and what they can scratch up on their own, our chickens are only fed whole grains from

Here is a picture of some of the chicks we hatched to replenish our stock.  As you can see this picture was taken April 17, 2006.  Unfortunately one of the four didn't survive.

However, the other three are doing well and have grown significantly!

And how about dad and his harem.

Where else can you meet the chickens that made your eggs?

I had an aunt that always told me chicken eggs are dirty as they come from a chicken's you know what...  I had to copy this information by "Johnny Mountain" from "The Farm" website per its copyright.  It has all kinds of useful information on raising chickens I haven't found elsewhere.  If my aunt is reading, pay close attention to the section on "Laying Eggs From A Hen's Perspective" you might be surprised and find a new appreciation for the incredible almost sterile egg!

A couple of great sites with all kinds of helpful information on raising chickens if you live in the country and want to produce your own:
